"St. Louis Voters Back Firefighter-Endorsed Leaders"
St. Louis Firefighters IAFF Local 73 is proud to announce significant victories in the recent municipal elections, with all three of our endorsed candidates securing their respective positions. These outcomes underscore the strength of our collective efforts and the community's support for leaders who prioritize public safety and the well-being of first responders.
Cara Spencer Elected as Mayor of St. Louis
We are thrilled to celebrate Cara Spencer's decisive victory in the mayoral race, where she secured 64% of the vote. Our endorsement of Cara dates back to her initial campaign for Alderwoman in 2015, during which she has consistently championed the causes of firefighters and public safety. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with Mayor-elect Spencer and her administration to enhance the safety and well-being of all St. Louis residents.
Alderwoman Anne Schweitzer Re-elected in the 1st Ward
Alderwoman Anne Schweitzer has successfully retained her seat in the 1st Ward, defeating her challenger with 69% of the vote. From the outset, our members demonstrated unwavering support for Anne, dedicating countless hours to canvassing neighborhoods and engaging with voters, often braving inclement weather. Anne's consistent advocacy for firefighters and public safety has solidified a partnership that we are eager to continue.
Alderwoman Alisha Sonnier Secures Victory in the 7th Ward
In the 7th Ward, Alderwoman Alisha Sonnier emerged victorious, earning 66.5% of the vote. Alisha's proven commitment to supporting firefighters has been evident throughout her tenure. Prior to the election, Alisha stated, "Our local firefighters are essential to our communities, and I'm ready to keep advocating for their rights as workers in City Hall." Her dedication ensures that the voices of first responders will continue to be heard and valued.
We matched Alisha’s enthusiasm with boots on the ground—knocking doors, talking to voters, and working the polls to help drive turnout. Just as she’s stood by us, we were proud to show up for her.
Firefighters' Dedication Beyond the Call of Duty
Our members were actively present across the city, expressing gratitude to citizens for their participation in the electoral process and informing them about candidates who support first responders. Demonstrating their commitment to community service, off-duty firefighters at the Walnut Park Library polling station responded promptly to a nearby accident, assisting an individual trapped in an overturned vehicle in front of the polls until on-duty crews arrived. After ensuring the individual's safety, they resumed their voter outreach activities.
Standing Strong With Our Supporters
"Supporting candidates that support us was a no-brainer," said Dan Clark, President of St. Louis Firefighters IAFF Local 73. "These leaders have consistently had our backs, and we’re proud to return that support at the ballot box."
We extend a heartfelt thank you to the voters of St. Louis for showing up, making their voices heard, and standing with the candidates who stand with their firefighters.
These election results signify a promising future for public safety in St. Louis. We extend our congratulations to Anne Schweitzer, Alisha Sonnier, and Cara Spencer. St. Louis Firefighters IAFF Local 73 looks forward to fostering strong partnerships with our elected officials to continue serving and protecting our community.
